Polarization Maintaining Fiber Pigtailed V-Groove Assemblies

OZ Optics Limited, a world leading supplier of fiber optic products for existing and next-generation optical networks, announced today that they now offer Polarization Maintaining (PM) Fiber Optic V-Groove Assemblies.

V-Groove Assemblies are an important part of next generation photonic devices. The arrays are made using precision silicon wafer technology, enabling sub-micron alignment accuracy. Extinction ratios over 20dB are easily achieved, with as good as 0.5 degree alignment accuracy of the stress rods with respect to the V-Groove substrate. Different fiber types can be used in each position in the V-Grooves.

PM fibers provide a way to control polarization dependent losses (PDL) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD). This will be crucial in developing the next generation of 40Gbs systems. The key to OZ Optics’ success in manufacturing PM fiber V-Groove arrays is their extensive research into fiber stress control and automated alignment and polishing. V-Groove Assemblies incorporating hermetic feedthroughs can be made for multiple fibers. This allows the development of multichannel photonic devices, capable of meeting Telcordia specifications.
